Krypto - Shih Tzu at Pittsburgh, PA

Visiting my close friend Vikram Sai Balaji at Pittsburgh, PA for new Year. Here is a video of a cute dog he has. It belongs to the Shih Tzu breed and is named Krypto. He chases a laser light like a 'mad dog'.

Blender 2.65

There was so much excitement going on in the Blender community with the release of Blender 2.65. Checking out how cool is this, I downloaded 2.65 and did some 8 hours of modelling and 2 hours of rendering in cycles render engine.  Inspired by my diet, a broccoli makes it to my scene!
Modelled a single floret which is just a stalk at the bottom and a bulb at the top. Then modelled a sphere with particle physics and used the floret as a particle. The plate, the fork and the broccoli all use color textures. No images or UV unwrap used. A sun light and a spot light used to give a little more focus on to our subject.

Doesn't it look nice?

Happy to see Blender is getting popular by the day with the release of their animation shorts.
Watch their latest short  "Tears of Steel"

However, my personal preference over their movies is "Sintel"

A Message From His Holiness

"Many years ago, in the holy month of December, a star guided three wise men to Jerusalem," His Holiness spoke from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.

Pope Benedict XVI had a clear and strong voice for his age.  Strong enough for him to be audible to the last person standing in the crowd which had gathered below to have a glimpse of him. Still, it wouldn't hurt to use a microphone.
He wore a....well you know what a Pope wears.

He continued "Today, I wish the star a very Happy Birthday". The crowd roared, though not sure what he meant. It was not the 25th of December yet - Thirteen more days to go!

He then raised his right arm as the crowd roared even more.

He made a symbol with his right hand fist. Only a select few recognized what the symbol was. He held the pose for a while and screamed a word that the crowd didn't comprehend at all.  It was not German, not French, not Italian either, but it was the Tamil word.
The word that millions in south Asia scream every time the 'star' hits the silver screen.

The Pope closed his eyes, breathed in and yelled again, this time even more fiercely... "Thalaivaaa....". The crowd imitated the pose repeated in chorus.

P.S - In case, it isn't apparent...I'm just kidding!
Happy Birthday to Rajini on 12-Dec!
Take it in a lighter vein!!

India Trip Sep 2012

What supposed to have been a 3 week vacation in India, went on for 4 and a half weeks but keeping myself busy all along.

The 32 inch TV that I took from US was a big experiment - would it reach safe unbroken? I had packed it tightly in the factory box with lots of bubble wraps and sealed the entire box with almost one full roll of duct tape. By the end of this packing, I felt like saying - even if this fell off the flight, the person finding this box can open and start watching TV program just like that!!

However, the TSA had opened the seal, checked it and re-sealed it but missed to put back the screws that would fasten the TV to its stand. It was a hard time finding these screws in Cuddalore/Pondicherry until some known technician fastened it with a 'closer' version of the screw (M4 types).

My father had come to Chennai with a driver just to pick me up in the SuV like Toyota Corolla.

Through out this vacation, we had to do multiple shuttles between Cuddalore and Chennai.
 1. First trip was for the Consulate appointment - for Visa Stamping. Since the consulate was closed for a week, my appointment got cancelled. So, we just stayed in a Holiday Home and roamed around the T-Nagar area.

2. Second trip was to give my Infosys Certification exam at Shollinganallur Office.
3. Third trip was to follow up with Infosys Visa Desk on when they would re-schedule my Visa appointment.
4. The fourth trip was to the VFS office at Cenotaph road and the next day at Consulate.
5. The fifth was to the VFS office again to collect my passport.
6. The sixth trip was for the flight.

It is a 4 to 4.5 hour journey from Cuddalore to Chennai depending on where the destination was in Chennai. For the trips within Chennai, I have started using my iPhone GPS and it was awesome.

Visiting my relatives, temples and eating delicious foods and feeding the cats made my India trip

The 50th Entry in Mokkai Tracker

Time to celebrate the 50th entry in Mokkai(PJ) Tracker Blog. The Mokkai tracker blog was established two years back with a noble purpose to track real life Mokkais from myself and my friends. Though it is quite a low number for a period of 2 years, I think it is still worth a celebration.  For people new to this Tamil word- Mokkai by definition is a double entendre intended for fun.
These are not roll and laugh comedies...so keep ur expectations low! The cool thing about this is - these aren't scripted!

Here is the 50th one... Congrats Sumit for being a part in the 50th post :-)!

Who teases whom?

"Hello..." I changed my voice to sound like an old man. My cold throat helped!
My nephew who picked up the landline phone answered with utter respect and fear "hello"
"Who are you?" I sounded even coarser
"I'm Gautham" I could barely hear his voice. He must have been real scared.
"What are you doing?" I asked..
"I'll give the phone to amma..."
Poor kid - I thought..
In the distance I hear him talking to my sister "Amma...sundar mama"
